The TPMD measurement system
- Its high accuracy has been widely recognized: more than 30,000 devices have performed 3.5 million measurements.
- Japan's national health insurance reimburses tongue force measurements using the TPMD.
TPMD measurement system
The TPMD self-calibrates before each measurement when you press the start button.
- Connecting the probe and tube
- Press the grey ON/OFF button
- Press the orange button, wait for calibration to complete
- Place the probe in the mouth
- Press the probe’s bulb with the tongue to start the measurement
What parameters TPMD can measure
TPMD enables standardized measurement of:
- Anterior and mid-tongue strength
- Tongue endurance and fatigue resistance
- Left/right symmetry of tongue force
- Upper/lower lip/closure strength
- Left and right cheek strength
- AnteriorGuided rehabilitation Exercises with the TPMD using resistance feedback and mid-tongue strength
These parameters provide an objective physiological foundation for functional rehabilitation. All measurements are displayed on a single screen and can be stored for longitudinal follow-up.
Hygiene and safety
TPMD probes are single-use devices intended for a single patient. Cleaning or sterilizing probes is strictly prohibited, as it may alter the tip's chemical composition and release toxic substances into the oral cavity. Patients may reuse probes a limited number of times for self-monitoring; however, excessive reuse may compromise measurement accuracy due to material fatigue.
Software & Data
TPMD connects to a PC or Mac via USB and operates with dedicated software for data visualization and storage.
The Software Provides –
- real-time graphical feedback during measurement
- Standardized display of all parameters on one screen
- Storage of measurement curves in patient records
- Longitudinal comparison for follow-up
Data can be securely saved for clinical documentation and research purposes.
